In the fourth largest city in the Netherlands, Utrecht, many buildings are historic landmarks left over from the medieval period, emitting a strong sense of history.

From Amsterdam, it takes just over an hour by train to reach the ancient city of Utrecht. The canals that run through the city give it a more poetic feel than Amsterdam. Although only staying for a half-day, I felt that Utrecht had a very special and ancient artistic atmosphere.

Utrecht is not only an ancient city but also permeated with an academic atmosphere. In addition to Utrecht University (UU), which ranks high in world university rankings, there are also many renowned universities and colleges in the Netherlands, hence its nickname “University City.”
